Alabama Student Is Killed by Trolley

Your Alabama personal injury lawyer, Alexander Shunnarah, is here for you if you’ve been injured in a serious accident. Here’s a bit of recent accident news for you to be aware of.

A 25-year-old female student was struck and killed by a street trolley in the Five Points South area on February 20, 2014.

The young woman was a student at a nearby school that offers a college-like experience to young adults with mild learning disabilities. The school is located close to the scene of the accident.

According to Birmingham police, the trolley-like MAX Dart bus was turning left from 14th Avenue to 20th Street when it hit the victim as she was crossing at a crosswalk. No one was said to be on the trolley at the time of the accident.

The school’s executive said the student had just left the building after getting out of class before the accident happened, and that it is common for students to walk to and from school, since one of the goals is to teach independence.

After the accident, parts of 20th Street South were blocked off as police looked at the scene in order to determine what had happened, but no other information about the accident was released.

Please always remember to keep an eye out for pedestrians on the road, and if you are walking, always watch out for vehicle drivers.

GM Finally Takes Action: Recall For Faulty Ignition Switch

A recall has now been set in order for General Motor vehicles that used a seriously flawed ignition switch. Although the issue was brought up in 2005, the company stalled almost 10 years before finally agreeing to a recall. According to an uncovered memo, the original decision was due to a concern over how much the recall would cost the company.

The problematic switches have a weak spring that can (and has) caused the car to turn completely off when the automobile is driven across bumps. This causes the car to become very difficult to control or drive, as the power brakes and power steering also shut off when the car does. In addition, the vehicle becomes unsafe due to the airbags being off.

The vehicles in question include Chevy Cobalts and HHRs, Pontiac G5s and Solstices, and Saturn Ions and Skys.

Sadly, thirteen people have lost their lives due to accidents with the automobiles thought to use these faulty ignition switches.

The CEO of General Motors, Mary Barra, promises that the “New GM” will put safety before cost.

If you have been hurt in a car accident, and think it might be from the negligence of someone else (even if it is a major company), an attorney from the law offices of Alexander Shunnarah is ready stand up for you. Contact a lawyer from our firm by calling 1-800-229-7989.

7 Big Mistakes to Avoid After Big Rig Trucking Accidents

Trucks cause serious accidents along our roadways for numerous reasons:
  • aggressive drivers, unrealistic/illegally long schedules
  • failure to inspect parts, tailgating, driver fatigue, boredom
  • cell phone usage, failure to use blind spot mirrors
  • jackknifing and speeding, to name a few

There are many secrets insurance companies don’t want you to know about your injury claim. For all information, check out my FREE book, 7 Big Mistakes to Avoid After a Big Rig Trucking Accident.

If you or a loved one are injured in a big rig accident, you may be entitled to recover various damages:
  • Pain and suffering
  • Loss of earnings
  • Future loss of earnings
  • Death
  • Disfigurement
  • Future medical bills

Big Rig Trucking Accident Mistakes

To make sure you are made whole after a big rig accident, you must avoid 7 major mistakes.
1. Not taking immediate action to preserve evidence to protect your rights: Trucking companies can delete all information that would be relevant to your case as soon as 14 days after the incident!
2. Not documenting everything that happens after the accident occurs: It’s not what actually happened but only what you can prove happened.
3. Not seeing your doctor or not cooperating completely with your doctors: See a doctor immediately after the accident, even if you don’t feel pain (just because you don’t feel it immediately, doesn’t mean you aren’t injured!).
4. Giving statements, signing papers or accepting insurance company estimates without first getting legal advice: No matter how sympathetic and kind someone can seem, they may have ulterior motives. There is also a lot of confusing, tedious and complicated paperwork involved in an accident. Let us help you decipher it!
5. Not hiring a lawyer, or hiring the wrong lawyer: Lawyers are necessary to “level the playing field” and ensure that you receive maximum compensation for your injuries.
6. Not being honest with your lawyer, or failing to cooperate with your lawyer: The more information your lawyer has, the more he or she can help you. The insurance company will have access to all information including past injuries, accidents or any legal issues. You must be forthcoming with your lawyer, so he or she is armed with the right information to fight for you!
7. Exaggerating your injuries or not being completely honest in other ways: Even a tiny lie can kill your case. ALWAYS TELL THE TRUTH.
